Make History - Volunteer Now!

Every day, volunteers at the Missouri History Museum (MHS) help make the history of our community more accessible. Putting their talents to work at the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park and the Library and Research Center, volunteers are essential to the work which began in 1866. Volunteers greet visitors, conduct tours and programs, staff the Museum Shop, assist with research, help preserve artifacts and much more.

People with special skills, flexible schedules or an interest in history are welcome to join our volunteer program. The Missouri Historical Society is committed to the success of each volunteer and offers an extensive training program designed to provide historical background information, specific skills and knowledge.

To Volunteer:

  1. Complete the Volunteer Contact Form on the web site and e-mail to helpus@mohistory.org
  2. Interview with the Volunteer Manager to discuss your interest and availability. You will be contacted within a week to arrange a time for your interview.
  3. Meet with the project supervisor for assignment, details and scheduling.
  4. Attend the Missouri Historical Society’s training sessions.(Departmental training varies depending on volunteer assignment.)
  5. Make history! Once you've been placed, there will be opportunities to explore further other volunteer opportunities and your personal interests.

MHS volunteers enjoy a wealth of benefits including discounts in the Museum Shop, enrichment programs, a newsletter, reference services, invitations to special events created to recognize the volunteer force and the satisfaction of both learning and sharing perspectives.

By volunteering, you too can make history. Just complete and return the Volunteer Contact Form. We'll find the perfect match for your time, talents and interests.

The Volunteer Services program at the Missouri Historical Society is certified by the United Way of Greater St. Louis Voluntary Action Center.
