Pettingill of Salisbury, New Hampshire, in 1842. They had five children: Charles (died young in 1843), Theodore Freeley (1844-1865), Ella (b. 1848), Arthur (b. 1853), and Mary (b. 1848), who was adopted from New Hampshire. Daniel B. Gale founded one of the most well-known grocery stores in St. Louis, Greeley & Gale, in 1834 with a friend of his from New Hampshire, Carlos S. Greeley. Many of his early letters consisted of business transactions such as the sale of wine. Daniel Gale's daughter Ella married Charles W. Barstow (b. 1838) of Boston, Massachusetts, on October 19, 1869. Charles was a Civil War veteran and served with distinction at Goldsboro, Kingston, and Plymouth. Ella and Charles had six children: Ted G. (cattleman out West), Charles W.
