The Missouri Historical Society (MHS) maintains the highest standards of artifact care and collecting practices. It brings this same expertise to the Soldiers Memorial collections, ensuring that these artifacts are appropriately preserved for future generations.
MHS has an extensive background of successful museum management, operating the nationally renowned Missouri History Museum:
1.) The Missouri History Museum (MHM) is one of the most visited history museums in the nation, with attendance exceeding that of museums in much larger metropolitan areas, such as the Chicago History Museum and the New York Historical Society.
2.) MHM has earned the highest level of accreditation in its field, an achievement attained by only the top 3% of the 35,000 museums in the country.
3.) MHM has earned recognition from national organizations for the quality of its administration and adherence to professional museum standards.
- MHM was the first recipient of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) National Award for Museum Services in 1994.
- MHM's Teens Make History program received the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award given by the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities (2014).
- The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) honored MHM multiple times with an Award of Merit from the AASLH Leadership in History Awards.
4.) MHM has been a member of the Zoo-Museum District since 1988, giving MHS a long track record of public/private partnership.
