It’s time to say farewell to the Missouri History Museum’s History Clubhouse: Let’s Build It! gallery, but it’s only for a while.
Since the exhibit opened in March, families have been engaging with some of St. Louis's favorite places and providing input that will be used to complete a permanent family gallery, opening next year!
So, what can families expect to see in the permanent History Clubhouse gallery in 2015? Plenty of new things! Several structures will be added to the downtown skyline (along with related artifacts), kids can ride on a trolley into history, and they can even climb aboard a steamboat to learn about the Mississippi River. A new section, the 1904 World’s Fair, will offer the opportunity to serve food at the fair, hear music, and help plant the floral clock!
Be sure to sign up for the Museum’s family programs e-newsletter to stay up-to-date on all family activities and know about the opening of the History Clubhouse in 2015!
In the meantime, plan to take part in the final “Let’s Build the History Clubhouse Weekend” on September 6 and 7, which looks at life in the ancient city of Cahokia. Children will receive History Clubhouse hard hats* and be able create artwork and write museum labels about their experiences. Parents will be asked to offer their insights at feedback stations throughout the gallery.
*while supplies last
The Let’s Build It! gallery is open during regular Museum hours. We expect high attendance during our Let’s Build the History Clubhouse weekends. On those weekends, members have a special opportunity to visit from 9 to 10 am on Saturdays prior to the Museum opening.
We want your family photos!
In the History Clubhouse, we plan to feature five St. Louis–area places that families love: Cahokia Mounds, the Mississippi River, Soulard Market, Forest Park, and downtown St. Louis. If your family has visited any of these places—whether it was yesterday, last summer, or 30 years ago—please bring in your photos to hang in the gallery. You can also email your photos to firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will hang them in the gallery for you.
Give us your feedback!
Do you have ideas, questions, or concerns to share? Feel free to email them to email@example.com.
Submit your artwork!
We are holding an art contest for kids. The winning masterpieces will be enlarged to gigantic proportions and hung on the Missouri History Museum building for all to see in 2015! We are asking kids to draw, color, or paint their favorite St. Louis places, and we’ll pick 10 works of art to be displayed on our building. Families must use the designated museum template and return entries to the Museum by October 5. Templates will be available at the Museum information desks at all times, and families can make artwork for the contest during the Let’s Build the History Clubhouse weekend events.
