The Guide to the Archival Collections and Archival Finding Aids

On the Archives Collection Guides page you can access the Guide to the Archival Collections (in PDF format), which contains brief descriptions of the size and content of our more than 3,000 catalogued archival collections. These archival collections primarily fall in three categories: (1) personal papers (including items such as letters, diaries, receipts, scrapbooks, certificates, diplomas, military papers, etc.); (2) records of businesses, organizations, and institutions (including items such as minute books, letters, rosters, etc.); and (3) records of various government agencies, mostly from St. Louis City and County (including items such as licenses, tax records, voter registrations, court records, land records, etc.)

You may want to search the Guide to the Archival Collections for your street address and the name of the neighborhood or community where your house is located (i.e., Skinker-DeBaliviere, Carondelet, Kirkwood).

The Archives Collection Guides page also includes more than 180 archival finding aids. In the upper right-hand portion of the Archives Collection Guides page, you’ll see a search box titled SEARCH THE SITE. This search box allows you to globally search the Guide to the Archival Collections and these archival finding aids.
