This unique cinematic experience tells the story of a cultural phenomenon known as FunkJazz Kafé, an unscripted arts and music festival that supported an often overlooked genre of soul music spanning the late 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s.
Highlighting artists such as Janelle Monáe, Roy Ayers, Omar, Jill Scott, Cee-Lo Green, Erykah Badu, and many others, this film goes deep into the fabric of soul music and includes commentary from prominent cultural critics like Dick Gregory, Cornel West, and Kevin Powell. Q&A with director Jason Orr follows.
