Voices from the Grave with Greenwood Cemetery

On January 11, 1865, the delegates of the Missouri state convention, led by radical republican Charles Drake, passed the immediate emancipation of all enslaved persons. Emancipation Day represents the freedom of African Americans from the bondage of slavery and is celebrated at various times throughout the country. This year, in conjunction with Greenwood Cemetery, we will give a voice to those once enslaved and celebrate their lives and contributions to American society.
