Ideas abound as to why certain complex societies collapsed in the past, including environmental change, fluctuating social structures, and lack of adaptability. Through an examination of Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Roman, Mayan, Incan, and Aztec societies, Scott A. J. Johnson, Ph.D., will evaluate current theories related to this topic and discuss why they offer only partial explanations for each civilization’s collapse.
Presented in collaboration with the Mound City Chapter of the Missouri Archaeological Society.
