Discovery Tour—From Muskets to Missiles: A Military History of the River City

St. Louis is home to the oldest military installations west of the Mississippi River, and it has long been a hub of military manufacturing. Its strategic location at the confluence of two major rivers cemented the city as a jumping-off point for military expeditions to the west. This Veterans Day tour will explore St. Louis’s rich military history, from its earliest years up to the current operations in the region. It will also spotlight Missouri’s role in the Great War through the Museum’s World War I exhibition.

Tour Leader: Patrick Allie, Military and Arms Curator

Sites include: Fort Bellefontaine, lunch at Hodak's, a tour of the Jefferson Barracks park and grounds, and the WWI exhibit in the Old Ordinance Room.
