Self-Guided Visits

High school classes have the option of exploring the galleries in a self-guided fashion. Self-guided visits include a brief introduction and orientation by our education staff, and are then entirely facilitated by the adult, school leaders. Reservation policies and chaperone ratio policies do apply to all self-guided visits. Each gallery you wish to explore must be reserved. 1 adult is required for every 10 students.

Self-guided visits work best when:

  • groups are small
  • teachers have prepared activities (scavenger hunts are strongly discouraged)
  • teachers have communicated their goals with the students

*Please note: if you are reserving a guided Gallery + Classroom program and you would like your group to explore other galleries before or after your program, you must reserve those galleries for a self-guided visit.

Before booking a self-guided visit, please read our K-12 Policies

Dates Available: Year round

Grade Level: Self-guided visits are available for 9th–12th grade only.

Minimum Number of Students: No minimum

Maximum Number of Students: Maximum number of students depends on the galleries reserved.

Galleries Visited: Self-guided visits are available in all of our continuing and special exhibits, provided that another group has not already booked that space for a guided program.
