K-12 Policies

Please thoroughly read all of our K–12 policies before submitting your field trip request form. By submitting a field trip request form, you're agreeing to all of the policies stated here.

Reservations Required
We want to ensure that your students have a quality experience. To help us guarantee this, all programs and spaces must be reserved at least two weeks in advance. This includes self-guided visits. Our programs and exhibits are popular and book up fast, so reserve your preferred programs, galleries, and times at mohistory.org/fieldtrips. No times, galleries, or programs are considered booked until a confirmation letter has been issued by the Missouri History Museum.

Chaperones
For the safety of your students and the success of your experience, 1 adult chaperone must be provided for every 10 students. Chaperones are required for all visiting school groups, including self-guided visits. Students and chaperones must stay together at all times. The Missouri History Museum reserves the right to change or cancel your scheduled program if your group arrives with insufficient chaperones.

Early and Late Arrivals
We understand that there are many factors that may cause your bus to be early or late. However, due to other group reservations and the schedules of our Museum Educators, we can't extend the length of your visit past your reservation time.

  • If you arrive early, we'll do our best to fit you into an open gallery, but if all galleries are reserved at that time, please plan to visit one of the other free institutions in Forest Park or the park itself.
  • If you arrive late, we'll do our best to still deliver the program you reserved; however, modifications may be necessary depending on your arrival time. For groups that are excessively late, significant changes to your program will be necessary.

Lunch
Because the Missouri History Museum facilitates and hosts a variety of daily events, we don't have space for students to eat lunch inside the Museum. Please make arrangements for your students to eat at school, on your bus, outside in Forest Park, or elsewhere off-site.

Cost, Reservation Changes, and Cancellations
All Gallery + Classroom programs conducted Monday through Friday at the Missouri History Museum are free of charge. However, because guided experiences require the use of Museum resources and personnel, we require at least 7 days’ notice for cancellation of a guided program and at least 14 days’ notice for a change to your reserved schedule.
Effective September 1st, 2016, programs scheduled on weekends will incur a $150 fee due to additional staffing needs.

If you need to cancel, please do so as early as possible so schools on our waiting list can be confirmed. In the event of a cancellation with less than 7 days’ notice, or in the event of a no-show, we will bill your school for a $50 cancellation fee. Days when school is cancelled (as for inclement weather) are the only exception to this policy.

Please note that the Missouri History Museum reserves the right to cancel or reschedule programming on short notice due to staff illness or inclement weather.

Buses and Parking
Please consult the details of your confirmed reservation before ordering buses. You're responsible for ordering your own bus(es) and communicating all driving and parking directions to the driver(s). Please plan on arriving 5–10 minutes early to unload. Buses should unload at the Museum’s north entrance (Lindell Blvd.), near the fountain.

Using a permit, buses may park in the Twin Lots parking lot located southeast of the Museum building. The Missouri History Museum has a limited supply of parking permits, which will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Permits should be displayed in the windshield. A driver’s license will be required as collateral in exchange for the permits. Permits must be returned to your tour leader. Alternatively, permits are available from the Parks Department (www.stlouis-mo.gov).

Museum Shop Visits
Programs don't include time to go to the Museum Shop. If your group would like to visit the Shop, please make a note on your field trip form so our Reservations Office can build extra time into your agenda. When visiting the shop, only 10 students are allowed in at a time, and an adult chaperone must accompany the group.
